La belle famille galloise entourant notre Grand Maître…
Gérard Richard, ambassadeur de l’Ordre pour le Pays de Galles, a eu le plaisir d’accompagner Claude Nicol et son épouse pour une première visite chez nos amis Gallois. Ce déplacement se déroulait dans le cadre du chapitre annuel de ce dynamique bailliage. Comme il est de coutume, l’accueil fut chaleureux. Mais découvrez sous la plume de notre ambassadeur, ce qui y a été vécu:
Gérard RICHARD ambassador of the Order for WALES, had the pleasure to accompany Claude NICOL and his wife for a first visit to our Welsh friends. This journey took place for the annual chapter of this dynamic bailliage. As usual, they were heartily welcome. But discover under the pen of our ambassador how they lived this moment.
“Notre nouveau Grand Maitre ne pouvait pas bénéficier d’une plus belle journée pour sa première visite au Pays de Galles. Accompagné de son épouse, il a été chaleureusement accueilli par nos amis du bailliage gallois mené par son Bailli Anthony PUGH, qui lui ont offert à dîner pour la première soirée à COWBRIDGE. C’est là que la délégation nantaise était accueillie de manière fort sympathique par le héraut et son épouse : Colin et Rosemary RYLAND qui habitent cette charmante petit ville (jumelée du reste avec Clisson).
“Our new Grand Maitre couldn’t hope for a nicer day for his first visit to WALES . Accompanied by his wife, he was heartily welcome by our friends of the welsh bailliage, led by their Bailli Anthony PUGH, who offered them a dinner for their first evening in COWBRIDGE. The french delegation was hosted quite nicely by the heraut and his wife : Colin and Rosemary RYLAND who live in this pretty city (which is twinned with Clisson).
Le dimanche 2 avril, nous avons rencontré au CHATEAU de FONMON les forces vives du bailliage, et avons été accueillis par le maitre des lieux Sir Brooke BOOTHBY qui nous a montré les deux pieds de vigne de Melon de Bourgogne plantés dans le jardin il y a 4 ans, lors de la célébration du 20ème anniversaire du Bailliage : c’est qu’ils ont grandi les bougres, puisqu’aucune taille n’a bloqué leur ascension le long du mur !
On Sunday April 2nd, we met in FONMON CASTLE all the Chevaliers and Dames de la Duchesse Anne, and we were greeted by the owner of the castle : Sir Brook BOOTHBY who showed us the two plants of Melon de Bourgogne which had been planted 4 years ago, upon celebration of the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Bailliage : they have grown a lot, as it seems that no pruning has stopped their ascent to the top of the wall !

Anthony PUCH reçoit la médaille de notre Ordre…
Au cours du chapitre, 4 nouveaux membres ont été intronisés, dont une Dame de la Duchesse Anne (veuve d’un chevalier). Le Grand Maitre a suivi avec gourmandise le déroulement du cérémonial et a participé à l’adoubement des nouveaux chevaliers. A la fin du banquet qui suivit (d’excellente qualité, comme d’habitude…) l’ambassadeur fit une présentation du Grand Maître qui répondit par une allocution où il disait le plaisir qu’il avait d’être là. Il rappelait aussi combien il avait apprécié l’importante délégation galloise qui était venue participer à son intronisation comme Grand Maitre, les 18 et 19 juin derniers.
During the chapter, 4 new members have been elected, among them a Dame de la Duchesse Anne (widow of a chevalier). Our Grand Maitre showed a strong interest in the ceremonial, and he participated in the dubbing of the new chevaliers. At the end of the banquet which followed (excellent, as usual…)the ambassador made a presentation of the Grand Maitre who replied by a speech where he was saying the pleasure to be there. He was also reminding how he had appreciated the important welsh delegation who had come to participate in his intronisation as Grand Maitre, on last 18th and 19th of June.
Enfin, Claude NICOL remit la médaille de l’Ordre au Bailli Anthony PUGH. Puis, l’ambassadeur présenta en quelques mots le programme du 70ème anniversaire de l’Ordre du 10 au 13 mai prochain ; il semble d’ores et déjà acquis qu’un car sera organisé par nos amis Gallois pour venir célébrer cet évènement.”
At last, Claude NICOL handed over the Medal of the Order to the Bailli Anthony PUGH. On his side, the ambassador presented shortly the programme of the 70th anniversary of the Order (10th to 13th of May 2018). It already seems that a coach will be organised by our welsh friends to join us for the celebration of this event.”
