The TOWER of the Files….A place of
History
Top of its Thousand Years this only and single square Tour of the
castle dominates still today the marshes of Goulaine. The base and the
door date from the 12° century; it was raised at the time of the wars of
religion.
As of the 13° century the Tower shelters the
files of the family of Goulaine which reigns on the surrounding grounds,
and marquisat (30.000 ha) recognized officially by Henri IV in
1610.
In 1788 the Dutch ship-owner Deurbrouck, installed in Nantes,
buys the castle, which will enable him to escape the flames at the time of
the revolution and the wars of the Vendée.
The family of Goulaine
repurchases the castle in 1858, then undertakes the restoration of the
tower in 1910 and her classification by Beautiful Arts in 1913.
In
the years 1980, the Bretvins Knights invest the Tower, the files are
stored with the castle, and after a successful restoration, one can again
borrow the Romance door of entry, decorated nails, then to climb the slate
staircase to discover the room of the weapons, the room of the Great
Council, and the room of the Baillifs who is the home of Bailliages
international.
